President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met in a historic bilateral meeting during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday to discuss about the issue on displaced OFWs due to bankruptcy of Saudi construction companies and other investment opportunities.

“The Crown Prince, His Royal Highness, announced and said that this was his gift — he really prepared for this and this was an agreement reached by the Saudi government just a few days ago,” Ople said.

Ople added that the Saudi government allocated two billion Riyals to pay affected OFWs.

According to the DMW secretary, the construction companies include Saudi OGer, MMG, the Bin Laden group and other construction companies that have not paid back Filipino workers.

Saudi Arabia’s Labor minister assured that this will not happen again to Filipino laborers who work in Saudi Arabia.

“Napakagandang balita talaga. At pinaghandaan talaga tayo ni Crown Prince. Kaya’t sabi niya ’yung desisyon na ’yan ay nangyari lamang noong nakaraang ilang araw at dahil nga magkikita kami at sabi niya ito ’yung regalo ko para sa inyo,” Marcos said during the announcement.
